Motorhome Adventure -The Art of Slow Living

Finally our Motorhome dream became reality In September...It was a tad larger than we anticipated but hey ho we can do this....

When we finally picked the beast up, and loaded up with our clothes, yes I travelled light, my capsule wardrobe on board, no not everything!, but I did take for all weather eventualities, Birkenstocks And wellies. And food, obviously Teapot and tea leaves, ooh and goodies. we were ready to Roll....Off we Go Me , Mr T & Miss Darcy all aboard our Home on wheels for the next 20 days.
Creating our Memories...

The Motorhome was certainly well equipped with everything needed to cook , wash-up, huge fridge/freezer and shower and toilet.
There was a king size bed above the cabin, which maybe not such a great idea, believe me when I say
Not a pretty sight watching me climb the ladder up, and down again... really, I am nearly 50 you know!
Also a 'garage' yes you heard right a garage at the back of the Moho....this was fab to store anything in, like cases, shopping bags, wellies, and bottles of water.
it was really comfortable, our seats in the driving area were like armchairs, I can honestly say I never once had a backache from sitting down for a few hours, they were fab.

So our adventure started in Essex. we tootled up to Leicester for the first night and found a place to stay for the night, now apparently this is called 'WILD CAMPING'...yes you heard right, now i'm no expert believe me this is the nearest you will Ever find me doing the whole 'camping' thing, But I really don't think theres anything wild about it.  It was rather adventurous considering it was our first night, but we made it, and everything was tickety boo.  The feeling we both found really straight away was How 'FREE' we both felt!. Totally relaxed, That feeling of mindfulness, and escapism, away from reality, people, the world.  I can so relate to people who get hooked.

The second morning feeling refreshed and raring to go we set off to a place which was recommended,
it was a slight detour but , well simply WOW!
I cant describe this wonder , its so beautiful with its cascading water, apparently robin-hood-prince-of-thieves was filmed here.

We loved that we could simply walk, and then pop the kettle on, brew some tea and have lunch.
Oh the freedom, it was fab.

After lunch we made our way to the Lake_District

For us the Lakes hold a special place in our hearts, as we spent our Honeymoon there many moons ago, so this is the first trip back, And it certainly didn't disappoint. Such a stunning county its really surreal, its hard to explain the sheer perfection our country has, its utterly breathtaking, I urge you all to take time out to appreciate what our country has.

We found lake Windemere as we drove into the valley my heart skipped a beat, it hadn't changed from all those years ago, something triggered my memory, and it all came flooding back to me. our time spent by the lake eating ice cream with hot chocolate sauce on top, wow what our memories hold. and strolling along as newlyweds.

We decided to find a campsite, so we headed into the wooded area in the hills. Where we found a beautiful Off-Grid campsite.  hill-of-oaks-park It was lovely, set within a wood next to the lake. totally off grid, no signal, yes we could've paid for wifi but to be honest it was so nice relaxing and not looking at our phones, tablets, we talked laughed and walked. the facilities were great, we hooked up and relaxed, (even more)

The following day we decided to drive up to Keswick and boy what a drive, we drove up via

Its the highest point in the Lakes, from Ambleside to Ullswater, Wow what a view, and Phew Scary...
with its twisty turns and road side ledges it certainly wasn't for the faint hearted, and we done it in our Large Motorhome. But so worth it, we stopped and strolled over a tiny bridge, with a freshwater stream cascading down the hills, Miss Darcy took a welcome drink of sparkling fresh water, and I tip toed over the cobbles .

We ventured onto ullswater

Where we had a Hot Chocolate looking across the lake, Ullswater is the famous Ikea picture that most people will remember having in the 90's, overlooking the jetty on the lake.
It was so clear when we arrived just like glass , and peaceful doesn't even do it justice. I could've stayed there simply 'being in the moment' all day.

It was getting late so we pressed onto Keswick to meet up with a friend who happened to be on holiday too, it was so lovely we strolled around the famous Market town, and ventured into little art shops, discovering amazing prints of our surroundings. Then stumbled upon a pub that we had eaten in on our honeymoon. Yes Mr P has an amazing memory, it was so nostalgic.
We then continued making our way 'up North' through to Edinburgh and our destination Carnoustie.
Where we spent some precious time with  Mum in law, taking her to lunch and having copious amounts of tea and amazing cake. The scottish know how to bake, one of my favourite garden centres dobbies make the best 'Huge' Scones so of course we just had to oblige, with Scottish strawberry jam and clottted cream....ooooh yes please!

So after a lovely few days seeing relatives we started making our way Back down country.
The beauty of a Motorhome is that you don't have to have a precise Schedule.. Now I'm your Ocd kinda gal, I have to have a list for a list, and know exactly what i'm doing, but because this holiday was a 'wing it' kinda holiday it was absolutely fine to change our minds, so we diverted from the plan to goto York,(we will visit another time I promise)  we decided to venture towards the .peakdistrict

On route, another suggestion from a client was to visit holy-island

now this was a place we had been before but we timed it wrong and couldn't cross the causeway, this time we were lucky, and it didn't disappoint..It was extremely windy but the walk was beautiful, with its old buildings, fishing boats and stunning Priory, its a must goto.  so after our walk we sat with a cuppa before pressing on to get to the Peaks.

The website actually states:

"Take in a view you will never forget!"

And how very true, it was breathtaking, One of my instagram friends jessicarosewilliams
has recently moved to the peaks, and her photos are so dreamy, it was wonderful to see for myself just how picturesque they are.
For Mr P it was a must to go see
apparently the Dambusters practiced here, it was quite surreal imagining this event.

Hope valley is totally breathtaking, its no mean feat driving a large motorhome up and down the valleys, across cattle and sheep grids let me tell you, but oh so worth it!

When we walked across rolling plains, I felt as though I was within my favourite classic wuthering-heights the moors surrounding me the eary feeling someones watching you....

Unfortunately we had a time to get the Moho back so had to leave and venture to our next unknown beauty.

We managed to find a quiet camping spot for the night where Miss Darcy managed to find some poor ducks to terrorise ( No ducks were harmed I promise)

The following day we made our way towards the coast, as you know this is where I feel most serene and peaceful so we drove towards the sea and stumbled upon a gorgeous place Salthouse Beach in Norfolk, and what a place to stop the night some wild camping, we literally were overlooking the sea,  Miss Darcy run out of the moho onto the beach , Not a soul there on this stunning coast,
walking and taking in every moment, mindfulness at its best...

Breathing in the salty air, and listening the the waves lapping over the sand, some crashing into the rocks, and the windy blowing through my hair.
I wouldn't have changed a single moment,so when it was sunset, words cannot describe the natural beauty....see for yourself...

Then lucky enough to see sunrise...WoW!

Then just like that it was Wednesday time to go home, although I was ready to get home,
Im a natural Home Body, I feel most able to be myself, comfortable in my own skin, relaxed and peaceful at home.
I have got to say, and Mr P agrees with me, for all the beautiful places we have been lucky enough to travel to, The Greek Islands, Maldives, Europe, Spanish Islands, Florida, New york,

In the words of Dorothy
"There's No Place like Home"..."Apart from an adventure In a Motorhome. "

. The Wonders we saw
. The Memories we created
. The Idilic scenery
. And the precious Time we spent together simply 'being', living in the moment, talking, laughing, and being spontaneous.

I can't recommend this staycation enough, we have such beauty in our home country, go see it you will not be disappointed I promise.
And maybe your be as hooked as we are, watch this space there maybe a Motorhome trip abroad next time?

Till next time
💋
